    MARIA GRACE ROBINSON
Tie ribbon: It's a little too short to tie around your wrist.
Continue toward building: You arrive. The building is large and luxurious-looking, adorned with flashing lights of all colors, though many of them are broken or missing. There used to be a large sign on the front, but it has fallen off.

Two statues of women stand before the abandoned building. The one on the right is carved of gold and silver, and inlaid with precious stones. The figure of an albatross, made from porcelain, is perched on her shoulder. Seven four-leaf clovers, carved of jade, are weaved through her hair, and an upward-facing horseshoe fastens her dress closed at the breast. Jade-carved bamboo seems to sprout around her feet.

The statue on the left is carved from dark wood and decorated in glass. A black cat sits on her shoulder, looking ready to pounce on the other statue's albatross. She, too, has a horseshoe on her breast, yet this one faces down. This statue is noticably plainer than the other one, yet while it is overgrown in vines and flowers, alive and dead, the details carved in the wood have somehow not been weathered away. In fact, both statues seem miraculously untouched.

    JIM
Continue toward building: You accompany Maria, seeing all of the above.
Take picture: You snap a picture of the building.
You have also received a pail.

    TED
Fight off sleep: You successfully manage to stay awake. Your veins are thrumming with the excitement of ham.
Locate ham: You stumble on through the grass and find Trace and Nicki. The ham-scent is strong on Nicki, yet you can't see it anywhere. Is she keeping it from you? Hiding it from you?

Maria turns partly towards Jim, "Well would you look at... Oh, right, excuse me.."

Maria attempts to communicate mentally as they had before, "That is quite a sight, is it not? Look at these", she points at the statues thinking in her lecture voice, "Lady Fortune, and Lady Misfortune. Usually depicted as the same person but oddly separate here."

"Shall we go see inside then?", Maria starts heading towards the building but stops for a moment next to the statue of Good Fortune and leaves two of her coins at her feet before continuing towards the building's entrance.

After what seems like several days longer than it should have taken, Ted finally finds it. The source. He's sure of it.

    It's....IT'S....

    Who is this?

Oh, right. This girl. She was one of the people on the plane. Ted, forgetting that she never introduced herself to him, "remembers" that her name is Tatiana.

So, Tatiana (that's not her name), we meet again! It WAS Tatiana (it wasn't), wasn't it? Tell me, Miss Tiana (what?), where is it? The ham, Miss Tiana (that is so incredibly not correct). Reveal its location and I will allow you to live (wait what). You see, young lady (what are you doing), I have a certain set of skills (pretty sure you stole that line), and I have ways of making you talk (no you don't). All in all, it will go much easier if you tell me what you know (wow this is the worst interrogation ever).

Luckily, Ted doesn't actually say any of this. Before he can, he can't help but notice that this woman looks surprised he's here, and she seems a little on edge. Ted instinctively tries to lighten the tension.

    "BOO!"

Ted's singular focus on the ham makes it difficult for him to notice Trace standing right next to him, but he tries to do so anyway.

  6. (Wow I completely misread everything. For some reason I thought it was the Cardinal that was approaching us rather than Ted. Why the hell did I think that?! Well at least I didn't make that mistake with my actions. Sorry for the confusion)

The man you completely failed to notice suddenly startles you with his yelling. You jerk backwards, hands raised in case of attack.

    "Aaah!"

You think about punching him, and you almost do. But...he doesn't seem to be attacking or anything. When you calm your nerves and take a better look at him, you realize you recognize him from the plane. Vaguely. You don't remember much about him save that he was being incredibly loud on the beach. What was that name he kept shouting?

"Ah...uh hey...you uh, lookin' around this island too?"

You point at Trace. You chose your words carefully. This guy doesn't seem all there.

"We're...we were also on that plane. So, we've been tryin' to find a way to get off the island. How about you...I mean have you found anything?"

Something tells you there would be strength in numbers. You're not sure whether you want to trust this guy yet, but if he can work well with you it'd be good to group up.

    (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah)

The Cardinal abruptly wakes up from his horrible nightmare next to the familiar glow of the grass lamp. Next to him is a lemon. He can't remember why the lemon is here.

Noticing something under the transmutation machine, the Cardinal digs around and finds two coins and .5 cups Nash Brothers fruit & nut natural granola, which he devours like a starving animal.

The lemon proves more difficult to consume. The Cardinal isn't sure he can eat an entire lemon.

(bleh. disgusting. combine this with something?)

(hmm, nope. only grass lamp and cookbook. don't want a glowing lemon or a book of lemon recipes. time to move on.)

The Cardinal, having no idea where to go from here, heads north.

    > You cannot help but stare at the extremely overweight man standing in front of you at this moment. He seems...somewhat cheerful, but given his singular, almost crazed focus on Ms. Durante you cannot help but think that he's come here for a specific purpose.

That or he's clinically insane. You have enough experience with both kinds of people.

Well, your partner seems to have pointed the strange man out to you, so you decide to respond while 1) Further trying to read this man's motives. "Yes," you say. You can feel the blood rush towards your nose as the nice, older lady's voice echoes through your head in your native tongue.
You nod in response, she seems to have quite the mastery of this new ability which is pretty impressive. You, on the other hand, only hurt yourself whenever you even think of trying to use it.
You watch curiously as she places the coin at the feet of the statue. You can't help but feel bad for the sister statue, which is strange since it's a statue and therefore not alive for capable of thought or feeling. All the same you find yourself imagining always having your name cursed while your sister is so highly praised and sought after.
You try not to let Maria see as you place two coins at the feet of misfortune. You're not personally worried about the consequences, since you've never really believed in the concept of luck, but you are aware that as people age they tend to look more to rituals and spiritualism for comfort and don't want to make your partner uncomfortable with an action that you can't justify, even to yourself.
You follow Maria to the entrance.

Leave two coins: You leave two coins at the feet of the statue of fortune. A brief feeling of safety washes over you.

"Oh!", Maria exclaims as the two step into the casino, "I have never actually been to a casino before."

She looks at the once brightly coloured machines. As Maria walks along the rows some of the dust rises up to her nose causing her to sneeze loudly.

Maria turns to look for anything that looks like a door for the staff, "There should be an office somewhere..."
  13. Almost Human

Almost Human Mightest of the Drunks Staff Member Bürgermeister

You take a picture of the inside of the casino and nod lightly at Maria's comments, but find yourself distracted by the slot machines. Most casinos have been banned from major cities in Russia for years now, including the Viva in Omsk. You didn't visit it much when you had the chance, but things have changed a lot in the last few years and you start to think that maybe your new, more adventurous side may enjoy a game or two of chance. You start to imagine a whole weekend, no, a week of vacation out in Altai Krai with Zakhar, risking half your paycheque on a single spin or the wheel or roll of the die.
Your mind wanders as your body does the same. You imagine dressing up in your finest, winning big and being handed the keys to the best suite in the Casino. You smile at the idea of fine dining in the evenings, late nights among the lights and noise at night and all the luxury and decadence, all that excess, all that cultural capitalism, that your family had been taught to reject for generations.
You were taught to work hard for your fellow man, that careers should be pursued for passion rather than pay and that true human freedom would be realized when all men are treated as equals, only to find your every meticulously tracked by secret police, ready to destroy your life at the slightest infraction.
You find yourself evermore seduced by the selfishness of a purely capitalist society, a society where no one cares what you sing about or who you want to sleep with because they're all so wrapped up in their own lives. You know it's not right, and it's not a life you'd want to live forever, but just for one night...
You snap out of your daze to find you've wandered away from Maria and are in another party of the casino entirely.
You look around to get a better idea of where you are, as well as any items that may be of interest in the area.

guys the font sizes changed and now Ted's yelling is the same size as everything else, this is BULLSHIT

Ted looks deep into Tatiana's eyes. The ham trail ends here, and if anyone knows anything about it, she does.

"Ah...uh hey," she says. "You uh, lookin' around this island too?"
    Ted does not answer.
"We're...we were also on that plane." She points to the man with her. "So, we've been tryin' to find a way to get off the island. How about you...I mean have you found anything?"

Ted looks at the man she's pointing out. Ah yes, that's another face he recalls. Didn't catch his name, though. But what's he doing so close to...

Ah, of course. The buddy system. Wait, who was Ted's buddy again? Ted forces the image of the rough-looking German woman into his mind. But inexperience with new phenomena brings a lack of understanding and control: for the briefest of moments, he unwittingly opens up his telepathic communication channel with her.

Ted, noticing his mind is wandering, turns his attention back towards his mission--finding ham. As he does so, his thoughts escape to the mind of another before the path is shut by his focus.

"Yes," says Tatiana's buddy, receiving Ted's full attention. "Any sort of...hidden treasures or strange devices that you'd like to mention? After all, it's always good to share useful information."

Ah. So that's what they're after. Ted is certain they have the ham, but it appears they won't give it up without some sort of deal.

But at what price? Ted does indeed enjoy a good ham, but he sometimes feels that his enthusiasm might be overstated. Still, he realizes there's nothing in his inventory he wouldn't mind parting with, and he does really enjoy a good ham...or several...

There's only one thing that Ted has that could fit the man's offer.

    "COINS."

Meanwhile, across the island, a thought enters Nastalya's mind uninvited...

    AARRGGGHHHH

The shock of another psychic message forces Nastalya to her knees. A song? A poem? Either way, it's in German. Nastalya was never one for literary analysis, she skipped most of her German classes, mostly to rebel, but in part because she'd get into fights with other miscreants. Man, she wasn't sure what was worse, the poem, or the sudden resurgance of embarassing high school memories.

[[GET OUT OF MY HEAD]] Nastalya concentrated (translated from German), sending it back to... whoever or whatever felt the need to do that.

Nastalya slowly rose, gripping her board tightly. She scouts out the rest of the house including looking out the windows. She also plans every possible escape route. She decides to probably make this her safe-spot, where she can hide when things get rough, and where she can store supplies to survive for now.

It occurs to her only just now, that with a house on this island, abandoned or otherwise, it means there may be other signs of life here.

The Cardinal finds an hourglass on the ground and pockets it. Looking off to the west, he thinks he can see something, but isn't quite sure.

The Cardinal picks a bird off his head.

"Charles, loyal bird. Point the way."

After a minute or two, the bird coos in the vague direction of the Deep Woods.

    "...never trusted you, Charles."

The Cardinal tosses the bird aside, which immediately returns to his head. He heads off to the west.
  17. This guy seemed a bit simple. Explosive, but simple. You couldn't tell if he was asking for coins or offering them up.

"Uh...you got coins too? We've been findin a lot of weird stuff on this island. I mean, along with the coins I somehow got stuff like cheese curls and...other random food. We actually just found an entire chest of ham. I don't know what's going on here, but I think someone's messin with us."

On the other hand, he shouts at you all the time, smells like American Fast Food and gives you the strong impression that he could easily kill you at any time.

However, overhearing Ms. Durante's comment, you throw in "Well what was your first clue, Madame? Was it the plane disappearing or the disembodied voices?" Your remark, while sarcastic, then reminds you that you had been planning to head to the East, at which point you add "So, good Monsieur(?), do you wish to join our group? We're heading for the East of the Island right now and we could always use another head."_
