Whoa, LA! You have me waaay outgunned as a Tolkien fan! I'm super impressed!
Have you read The Hobbit comic book? I only ask because I haven't met anyone else who has and it was how I was first introduced to Tolkien as a kid. The art in it is beautiful!

One never truly stops being a Tolkien nerd. And when I obsess, I can obsess hard, heh.

    I haven't

I love love love the Alan Lee illustrations for the Hobbit but I didn't actually know there was a comic book version? Shouldn't be surprised, honestly. I'll have to check and see if we have it at the bookstore - we have all of the Tolkien stuff right now and it's really hard not to just go out there and buy it all. I've already got the Atlas of Middle-Earth shoved into the staff holds cupboard...

Haha, I read my first copy of it at my rinky-dink little local library and didn't find it again until years later at a tucked way little comic shop. I'm sure copies are much easier to find now though.

Waaah! I just watched the first genuinely tension slasher flick I've seen in YEARS and it was all spoiled by a stupid stupid stupid ending!
Why the hell do movie writers think every stupid movie needs a twist? It was fine on it's own! It had great atmosphere, a strong build up and a few really genuine characters, who actually make SMART decisions in a scary situation. And the 'twist' didn't even make sense!
    Stupid stupid stupid filmmakers!

What film was it? I am genuinely super interested.

It's called Asylum Blackout, and it's not perfect but I really enjoyed it (until the end).
Nobody is fighting over a random hot girl, it's a slow build and they actually act like people; they try to find a phone and barricade themselves into a 'safe' place.
It's unrealistic of course, as the number of guards is almost equal to the number of cooks and there appear to be no doctors whatsoever, but I'm okay with this since the situation is one that actually scares me, unlike the old house or cabin scenario.

Tonight I watched Dr. Strangelove and the only real comment I want to make is that Slim Pickens is the worst pornstar name I have ever heard.

no way it is hands down the best

Also I watched Battle Royale last night and it was totally awesome. I love stories like that, plus it was hilariously Japanese. It kind of reminded me of Corpse Party, which I was recently super into.

Basically it was like the Hunger Games set in Japan.

    Battle Royale is fucking good.

Not even as like a campy cult movie alone it's just a good ass movie.

Also more like Hunger Games is Battle Royale set in north america or wherever it takes place.

Yeah actually I feel like kind of a tool for phrasing it with Hunger Games first because Battle Royale is clearly older and more awesome.

    The point is

schoolkids forced to kill each other on an island

    = a kickass movie

I liked the psychological aspect of showing how people in that might situation might actually react, like the girls in the lighthouse with the poison.

Ah, excellent choice of viewing! I figure that Mr. Kubrick gave us a winner with that one!

Of course, the title character doesn't get much screen time over the course of the film, but there are plenty of other interesting characters to compensate. And it's an excellent satire of cold war politics to boot!

...Wait, didn't I write my thoughts on the movie in an earlier post on this thread?

    Guys guys guys guys
While Snake Plisken will always be my favourite shotgun wielding, leather clad, hyper masculine, post apocalyptic, anti-hero; The new Mad Max was fantastic.

I haven't seen either of those movies!

Maybe we can fix that with a stream sometime....

Dude. That would be awesome. I hope I can one day make it to another stream.
I don't get to do things any more it seems. Stupid work.

I just watched John Wick. This guy has a pretty messed up way of coping with loss.

I've gotten a new program recently that's allowing me to catch up on a bunch of movies I've missed!
So far I've watched an amazing documentary on the University Texas shootings called "The Tower" and a horror/comedy called "Prevenge". They're both great in my opinion!
